XXI Simpósio de Mirmecologia (Ant Symposium) in Fortaleza
In December the Directors attended the XXI Simpósio de Mirmecologia (Ant Symposium) in Fortaleza, northeast Brazil. This was attended by over 100 delegates from France, Belgium, Australia, United States, South Africa, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil. Each day commenced with a plenary session, one of which was presented by Jonathan Majer and was entitled ‘A long-term career in myrmecology – maximizing benefits and harnessing opportunities’. He also contributed a paper to the round-table session on using ants as bioindicators.
